NY state of mind

Photos by Robert Garong

You hear the bustling noise of taxi cab doors shutting left and right. Subway trains navigating its way underground. Cars honking from ear to ear. Feet scurrying next to you from a passerby. The smell of freshly made pizza ringing up your nose from the pizza stand down the street. In the city that never sleeps this is the total normal everyday environment of a New Yorker. This is the city that I call my second home.

NY holds a special place in my heart. It is the very place that inspired me to start this blog. 3 years ago I traveled to this city not knowing what I was going to return with. I was 19 at that time and I was seeking adventure and escape. Along that trip, I learned many things here and there. One of the most important was self love. Self love is the best type of love you can give to yourself. If you can't love yourself for who you are, then how can you love other people? I struggled with this for a long time because the old Lara felt like she was never good enough for anyone or anything (I know many of you can relate). But my one advice to you is to be strong. You are beautiful and you are loved. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise because you are invincible! Sometimes in life, all we need is for someone to push us in believing that we are valued. I hope this enlightens you in every way possible just as it did for me.

Traveling by myself not only made me realize what I wanted, but it made me determined to make my dream of becoming a fashion blogger a reality. Fast forward to present day and here I am blogging my thoughts away as I compose this article. I may not be one of those Instagram famous bloggers you see on your feed but what's important is that I made my dream into a reality. I blog because I feel empowered to share my thoughts and style with the web. I love being in front of the camera because it makes me feel beautiful; inside and out. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? So let's make it count!

I hope by the time you've finished reading this article, that you reflect on what you want to accomplish in the new year; whether it's a certain goal or a dream that you've always wanted to chase but have been too scared to pursue. If it scares you so much, maybe it's worth chasing! Life can be scary at times but what's the point of living if you're not willing to take that risk.

Gamiss: Tie Dye Patterns & Tankini Bathing Suits Wishlist

Are you cool for the summer?

I've partnered up with the online retail store, Gamiss to brighten up your summer bikini wardrobe! Tie Dye Patterns & Tankini bathing suits are on my wishlist for the perfect beach necessities. Check out my summer picks below!

Tropical Print Tankini Set

$13.99

Cropped Long sleeve Top

Full Coverage Bottoms

You thought I would forget about you surfer gals huh? WRONG. Long sleeve bikini tops give the maximum protection (besides sunscreen) at the beach. I love how Gamiss used this tropical print to bring out the fun side of wearing this set. And if you're scared of mooning anyone in the water, don't worry cause these bottoms got you covered; literally.

Interested in purchasing this set? Here's the link below.

Not quite your pick? Check out their other tankinis here.

Low Cut Tie Dye Ruffles Backless Swimsuit

$9.34

Deep Plunge Front

Ruffle detailing

Tie dye prints remind me of my childhood. If you had a shirt of this print you were considered the coolest kid on the block. I'm a sucker for pinks, maroons, and blue tie dyes. So this shouldn't be a surprise on why I chose this one piece. Wearing one pieces give me a sense of security knowing that all my goods are tucked in and not peeking out haha. Showing a little cleavage is something you shouldn't be sorry for this summer. I love the ruffles design with the deep plunge. So sexy and cute from your usual boring one piece.

Shop this look here!

Not quite your selection? Browse more styles below.

I'll be styling some pieces from Gamiss in the next month so stay tuned for my stylist picks!

RED

Photos by Vera Bersabal

I've been busy packing for another trip.... I'm going to my homeland, the Philippines! I haven't been there in years so I'm very excited to see my grandma and eat lots of Filipino food! (Not that I already don't here)

My mum told my sister and I that we're checking in 4 luggages. In other words, that gives me the opportunity to pack my entire closet- HAHA! I've decided on saving the fancy clothes for the city and the casual clothes for the province.

I'll be taking lots of pictures so all you readers can catch a glimpse of my adventures while I'm there. Who knows, maybe I'll end up staying in a private beach or go zip lining in a forest!

Sunday Gloom

 Photos by Kassey Cordova

Happy Sunday!

1,000+ views in the past 2 days?!?! You readers are the best!! I'd like to send each and everyone of you a virtual hug for being so awesome and reading my blog! I'm pretty sure you can tell I'm so ecstatic by all the exclamation points I've used so far in these sentences, haha! I just cannot contain it.

I hope you all stayed warm and dry from the rain this weekend! I, myself, am not a huge fan of rain but California needed this since we were in a drought!

How did you spend your Saturday & Sunday? Did you stay in and watch netflix all day or perhaps go on an ice cream run in the rain? I actually did one of these. My Saturday was well spent as I enjoyed a spontaneous kbbq dinner with a bunch of my good friends from high school. I'm team brisket all the way - just because it cooks faster than the other meats. And as for dessert..... you guessed it right! We went on an ice cream run for a perfectly swirled,  vanilla ice cream on a classic cone. YUMMY!!

So these photos are from a shoot I did back in early January before flying to New York. I just thought it was appropriate to post since it's been gloomy these past few days. You might be wondering where my sweater is from. It's actually from one of my dad's thrifted collection! My dad has good taste! Like father, like daughter shall we say? Definitely check out your local thrift stores. You never know what may catch your eye!

My photographer, Kassey and I ended our day at a residential area in Burbank overlooking the Bob Hope Airport. The view was breathtaking. The cold wind breezed through our hair as the sun slowly set. Planes of various airlines gradually made their way into the vivid, painted sky. Thinking of all the passengers aboard, I envisioned the destinations they will be arriving to. States filled with snow this winter season filled my mind. Then, the thought of me being one of those travelers gave me a sense of excitement. Not only will I be traveling thousands of miles away from home, but to a city I fell in love with years ago. Not just any city, but the city that never sleeps; New York.

Stay tuned for my next post: my NY trip!

WELCOME TO MY BLOG

(Romper- Nastygal, Sunnies- Zerouv)

Oh, hello there!

So it's finally here. After all the brain storming and never ending support from my family and friends, my blog is up and running! First and foremost, I'd like to thank the beautifully talented, Sonja of simplestylings (go follow her; simplestylings.blogspot.com) for being so helpful with all the major and minor details I wanted on my blog. Also, a HUGE thanks to Chammy for getting this started. I couldn't have imagined getting this done any other way without you two dolls. Thank you to my amazing photographers: Nikka Calleja, Edward Kim, Kassey Cordova, and my big sis, Vera. You guys are the best!! And how can I not forget this one; my not so little sister, Jona, for being the genius behind my fashion blog name, FASHIONTHREADSS.

As some of you may know, I've always had a keen eye for fashion dating back to high school. From reading Harpers Bazaar to Vogue, I discovered my interest in the constantly changing, and intriguing, fashion realm. Tuning in to  The Rachel Zoe Project gave me a couple glimpses of what it would be like to live a life in fashion. It then occurred to me that starting my own blog would be a splendid idea. Posting pictures of outfits with my sense of style. It would be something I would enjoy doing since I loved playing dress up as a kid.

I became inspired by fashion bloggers such as Olivia of lusttforlife.com and Jessica of hapatime.com on lookbook.nu. I came to a realization that it isn't necessary to buy expensive clothes to look fashionable. You can piece together a casual yet chic outfit with a plain white tee, distressed jeans and a pair of edgy flats/heels - don't forget your sunnies! Throw on your aviators and there you have it. A comfortable and stylish outfit!

My blog will include posts of my day to day outfits as well as places I've traveled to. I'd like to get some feedback on what you, readers, would like for me to post too! Let me know your creative ideas by dropping your suggestions on my IG or just shoot me an email! I'll look forward to reading all of them!

Thank you for all the love and support!

Cheers to the weekend!
