NY state of mind

You hear the bustling noise of taxi cab doors shutting left and right. Subway trains navigating its way underground. Cars honking from ear to ear. Feet scurrying next to you from a passerby. The smell of freshly made pizza ringing up your nose from the pizza stand down the street. In the city that never sleeps this is the total normal everyday environment of a New Yorker. This is the city that I call my second home. 

NY holds a special place in my heart. It is the very place that inspired me to start this blog. 3 years ago I traveled to this city not knowing what I was going to return with. I was 19 at that time and I was seeking adventure and escape. Along that trip, I learned many things here and there. One of the most important was self love. Self love is the best type of love you can give to yourself. If you can't love yourself for who you are, then how can you love other people? I struggled with this for a long time because the old Lara felt like she was never good enough for anyone or anything (I know many of you can relate). But my one advice to you is to be strong. You are beautiful and you are loved. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise because you are invincible! Sometimes in life, all we need is for someone to push us in believing that we are valued. I hope this enlightens you in every way possible just as it did for me. 

Traveling by myself not only made me realize what I wanted, but it made me determined to make my dream of becoming a fashion blogger a reality. Fast forward to present day and here I am blogging my thoughts away as I compose this article. I may not be one of those Instagram famous bloggers you see on your feed but what's important is that I made my dream into a reality. I blog because I feel empowered to share my thoughts and style with the web. I love being in front of the camera because it makes me feel beautiful; inside and out. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? So let's make it count! 

I hope by the time you've finished reading this article, that you reflect on what you want to accomplish in the new year; whether it's a certain goal or a dream that you've always wanted to chase but have been too scared to pursue. If it scares you so much, maybe it's worth chasing! Life can be scary at times but what's the point of living if you're not willing to take that risk.

Happy December!

So Rob and I got back from our BOS/NYC trip last month and it was definitely one for the books. There's just something about going to another state/city that makes me feel excited and warm inside. Maybe it's the fact that I feel unstoppable and inspirations just fill up my head. Or maybe it's having that freedom to do whatever I want as I please. I hope as you read this, it motivates you to venture out of your comfort zone and explore what's out there. Adventure awaits in every corner. It's up to you to chase it.

Unfortunately, the day after we flew back to cali, I got sick with the flu so that's why I've been MIA. A small trip to the ER and a bag of iv really helped me get back into shape asap. Although I'm not looking forward to the hospital bill...

You're probably wondering where my Boston and NY pictures are. Well, I haven't gotten around to editing them yet cause I've been so backed up with other projects. But not to worry, I'll have it posted before the new year so stay tuned for those!

This t shirt is literally my motto. When I saw this on the Rosegal website I had to get it.  No pants are the best pants. Anyone else agree with that? I know what I'm wearing is a contradiction but if I didn't wear pants it would have been a public indecency LOL. 

Life has been kind of a rollercoaster of emotions recently. It saddens me to say that I lost my friend, Sheryl Capistrano to lupus. She did my makeup back when I didn't know how to put eyeshadow and do my eyebrows haha. She's the reason that I now know how to do both. If we never met I probably would still be playing it safe with just eyeliner and mascara; lets be real. I thank God for having met you even if it was just for a short period of time. Thank you Sheryl for all the memories we made together. I hope you're as happy as can be in paradise. <333

Happy Hump Day!

It's finally Wednesday and the weekend dawns closer. I don't know about you but it feels like this week has been going by so slow... I wish I had a fast forward button so the days would seem shorter but any who we must keep carrying on!

I've been searching far and wide for the perfect off the shoulder dress that wasn't too long nor too short; but I didn't find one that fit me until I saw this dress on the Rosegal site. The cutoff length just hits right above my knee so I don't look like I'm drowning when I'm wearing it. Just to clarify once again, I am a size medium in their clothes since they do run a size smaller than usual. If you're unsure about your size you can use their sizing chart for reference. If any of you may be wondering, I'm using the "Jaclyn Hill Palette by Morphe" on my eyes. I've been gravitating towards the 'brown smoky eye' lately since I haven't done this look in a while( I usually go for dramatic eyes). The thing I love about this natural makeup look is that it'll always go with a nude/pink lipstick. Keeping the eyes at a neutral tone lets you get creative with the lipstick color. 

Gloskinbeauty was kind enough to send me this lipstick in the shade 'pillow talk'. Their lipsticks retail for $24. It is a little on the high price range but I guarantee you that it's worth the splurge. The packaging is black matte with magnetic cover caps so you don't need to worry about losing the caps on these. It's also not too creamy and it stays on for quite some time. I don't get paid till Friday and I'm already eyeing their 'glaze' and 'french nude' shades...

HIYA!!!

It's finally September and my fave season is on its way, hooray! I've always been a 'fall' type of girl so I love me some cozy sweaters, thigh high boots, and dark lippies. Anyone else feel the same as I do?

Just because we are slowly transitioning to the cold weather, doesn't mean that it's too late to say goodbye to blue high waisted shorts such as this set that I'm wearing. Rosegal was kind enough to send me this set to style for this post. (thank you Sally) 

I love anything with floral prints so this set was something I had to get immediately. This set retails for $17.27 and I'm in the size medium. The bottom frills on the shorts add such a cute flare to the set. I couldn't stop twirling in it when I was taking these pictures haha. If you'd like to purchase this set, you may do so here. I thought this look was meant to be especially when I paired it with these Christian Siriano low heel suede slides. I mean how can you not love these slides? They're so versatile and can be freely dressed up or down. 

I'm 2 weeks into my new job and I'm as happy as can be. I still work in the healthcare field but it's not as strenuous as my last job. I enjoy getting off at 5pm everyday but I do dread the drive back home... sitting in traffic for an hour totally sucks. I've gotten back to working out now so maybe I'll be toned in time for the new year; who knows! Rob and I are going to BOS and NYC in November and I cannot wait to travel once again. My heart has been craving the thrill of just being in another state and exploring what is out there. My inner adventurous Lara is just waiting to see what this trip has in store for us.  

As I'm counting down the days for the trip, anyone else excited about attending  Insomniac's Escape Psycho Circus? I'll be attending the event with a couple of my close friends so that's something I'm looking forward to next month. Everyone else has their outfit ready and mine is still TBD... Feel free to send me some costume recommendations, I'm all ears!

Happy Monday my loves! 

I hope your weekend went well just as mine did. I celebrated a few drinks with my best friend and boyfriend in honor of my new job! I'm so glad I can finally say that I'm done working nights. I'll no longer be an insomniac; maybe at my next rave, but not on the day to day basis. Hip hip hooray!!

Whenever I'm in the mood to dress down I always go for either leggings or sweatpants. Fashion doesn't always have to be glitz and glamour, right? Queue in the t-shirt dress. This plain jane has been my go to look for the past month. 

Rosegal has been so kind enough to send me this nude colored low cut t shirt choker dress to review. Like I've mentioned in my previous posts, their sizes do run small so I'm a size medium in their clothes. Usually the quality of some of their products are thin but this one is soft and promising. The material used was well chosen and is soft to the touch. With the low cut style on this dress, I suggest wearing those strappy bralettes under to spice up your look. Unfortunately, this item is no longer available on their website but I've linked another similar style to this Pink Tee here.
